'The Treasure We Found'
Our ancestors were hunting for treasure under the earth, in the riverbanks, under the water. We followed in their footsteps but the treasure was above ground all along.
I recently drove through the Karangahake Gorge and as I often do think about the miners there. My own great grandfather and his father were doing the same down the West Coast. Trying to eke out a living. Some of them died trying. We’ve fossicked around in creeks for fun. These days my treasure is in the views. Different lives entirely.
I’m loving the very painterly marks in this piece. More photos to come.
